Supporting documentary filmmakers
DOCLAB brings together emerging documenary filmmakers from across the south west who are currently, or aspiring to, make short and longer form documentary films. We aim is to inspire and enable participants through networking, film screenings , talks and workshops and, ultimately, to discover how to grow and support the regional documentary film community.
Development Lab
DOCLAB hosts monthly Development Labs that offer a welcoming, inclusive, and safe space for documentary filmmakers to come together, share ideas, and develop their projects. Whether you’re just starting out or have years of experience, our labs are designed to support and nurture filmmakers at every stage of their creative journey.
Each session provides an opportunity to workshop your documentary ideas, practice pitching to a supportive group, and share works-in-progress or completed projects for thoughtful feedback and discussion. Through peer to peer support the Development Labs aim to help you grow your storytelling skills, build confidence, and connect with a vibrant community of fellow filmmakers.
DOCLAB Micro Documentary Film Commission
In 2025 DOCLAB launched it’s first annual film commission, offering emerging documentary film talent the opportunity to create a short documentary through a year long process of mentoring and development. Now in its second year, the commission is proud to support emerging regional documentary talent.
